My Mother, the Teacher

December 1982

My mother is a teacher. My kids think this makes her all-knowing. (This is also beneficial to me, as whenever Steve and I disagree on something, Rachel and Lucy say I must be right because "Her mom's a teacher!") They frequently tell me to call my mother and have her answer the questions that I don't know the answers to. She enjoys that they think so highly of her occupation. To their credit, she always knows the answers.

And to her credit, I never had to learn any of the real "rules" of the English language. I could fly through English tests without even thinking. I just picked the answer that "sounded" right.

Thank you for teaching me the English language, among so many other things.

Happy Birthday, Mom.
